This is a blog about home canning—or "putting up" as one might say where I'm from—and it will cover jams and other fruit preserves, pickles and briny things, canned vegetables (above all tomatoes) and the complement of condiments that includes relishes, sauces, salsas and those related preparations that result when you chunk bits of seasonal produce and preserve them in a syrup either piquant or sweet.

STS in LAT!

Look! My wonderful friend Betty Hallock, one of LA's best food writers, blogged about SAVING THE SEASON in the Los Angeles Times's Daily Dish, here. Thank you, Betty!

I just got here via LATimes, and congratulations on the write-up. Congratulations also on the site--what a great concept! I'll be back here again soon, and often, searching for inspiration for what to do with my Altadena back- (and front-!) yard produce.
