This is a blog about home canning—or "putting up" as one might say where I'm from—and it will cover jams and other fruit preserves, pickles and briny things, canned vegetables (above all tomatoes) and the complement of condiments that includes relishes, sauces, salsas and those related preparations that result when you chunk bits of seasonal produce and preserve them in a syrup either piquant or sweet.

Cherry Splatters

Making cherry jam is messy work. My kitchen looked like a murder scene with red splatters. But delicious results.

I found your blog today. I read it's entirety in one fell swoop, and am now deeply, deeply in love with all you do here. I'm an advanced beginner in the canning world and your recipes and stories are speaking to my little homemaker soul. I can't wait for your book!

Hi Cadi -- Wow -- thank you for that great comment -- I'm honored. The book will be out next spring -- in time for strawberry season, and maybe even by the end of citrus season. I'm going through the copyedited manuscript now. When the book is done-done, I'm be posting more here more often, so please come back again soon -- my best, kevin
